20 Oct, 2015

Jan Rupp

Jan Rupp has been appointed as Head of the newly founded Clinic of Infectiology and Microbiology  at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck.

He is an internationally renowned scientist in the fields of Chlamydiae biology and immune-regulatory mechanisms of hypoxia. During the last few years, he has established the Clinical Trait Unit within the Deutsche Zentrum für Infektionsforschung (DZIF) in Lübeck. After studying in Gießen and Lübeck, he worked at the Campus Lübeck in different leading positions; in 2014, he became Head of the Section for Molecular and Clinical Infectiology. He is also a principal investigator within the Research Training Group “Genes, Environment and Inflammation” and supervises doctoral researchers from the fields of biology and medicine.

In this new clinic, the fields of microbiology and infectiology are combined in one clinic for the first time at a German university hospital. As more and more patients suffer from complex infectious diseases, there is a need for diagnosis and therapheutic approaches under one roof. The scientific work will also be fostered by and give impulses, respectively, to the already existing networks, e.g. the Cluster of Excellence Inflammation at interfaces and our Research Training Group.
