Why this profession?

I’ve been fascinated by biology and its broad spectrum of different disciplines ever since I can remember. Consequently, I decided to study biology for my Bachelor’s. Having been diagnosed with a chronic disorder myself directly after school, I took my studies as an opportunity learn more about my own disease and its causes. Thus, following the Bachelor’s degree in Hannover, I studied Anthropology for my Master’s in Mainz to “dig deeper” into the secrets and particularities of the mammalian body – and especially those of the gastrointestinal tract. These days, I am glad for the opportunity to be working on my own project, which is based on an intestine-related topic.

Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?

The Research Training Group provides a great platform for high-quality interdisciplinary research. What matters most to me personally is the fact that the combination of natural and physician scientists results in translational research, which, in the end, ensures a clinical relevance for patients suffering from different types of inflammation. Moreover, I especially like the fact that being associated to the RTG provides me with the possibility to attend different soft-skill courses, which will be very useful for my future scientific career.
