Consolidated Researcher Details:

Why this profession?
I’ve always been interested in and fascinated by science since my school days. The difficult part was choosing which pathway to follow during University, since it’s such a diverse field.
I’ve favoured medicine for a while and to determine my choice I’ve decided to work for an NGO based in Nairobi, Kenya for half a year. We were providing HIV testing, counseling and guidance in the most rural parts of the country, with no running water or electricity on site. Sharing some of the most touching moments, the people I’ve been meeting during this stay convinced me to pursue a medical career.
Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?
Chronic inflammatory disease raised my interest, as there is still so much we don’t know and so much to find out regarding its pathophysiology and curability. I experienced the need for research in this field, while working in a hospital Arusha, Tanzania. People were simply not able to pay for lifelong therapy, resulting in them either suffering from the disease or putting their family at financial risk to afford treatment. The RTG1743 provides an ideal setting to promote my academic education by working with scientists, who are on the top of their field. This enables me to learn and master scientific methods at a level that would not be possible during my normal studies and add knowledge to one of the most complex group of disease known.
