Why this profession?

It was not my childhood dream to become a doctor, but I felt that studying medicine would leave me open to a lot of different opportunities later on in my daily work. And that´s how it went: I still enjoy taking care of my patients as well as the incessant process of improving science in my lab and my work as a lecturer and scientist.

Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?

The combination of these three aspects is very unique and completely fits in with my view on how inflammatory processes elapse. Understanding how the environment shapes host-pathogen interactions is one of the most fascinating facets in infection biology and will keep us busy for quite a while. The findings coming out of the RTG will not only expand our comprehension of inflammation in general, but will also result in future trends to improve the experimental models and constitute research as close to vivo as possible.
