Why this profession?

As a physician I´m designated to provide the best medical therapies for patients with IBD. As a researcher I`m thrilled by the fascination of the interplay of intestinal microbiota and the mucosal immune system in healthy and diseased states. As a clinician scientist I aim to transfer a deeper understanding of the mucosal immune system into a best therapeutic care for IBD patients (bench to bedside).

Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?

Inflammatory bowel disease is a chronic inflammatory disorder with rising incidence worldwide. The need for precise therapeutic strategies and the deeper understanding of the interplay of genetic susceptibility, environmental triggers and individual lifestyle on intestinal inflammation processes drives my research interest.
