Why this profession?

Just having finished school, I found it quite difficult to choose a career in the first place, as it meant to leave the other options behind.
Studying medicine allows me to combine many of my interests and after graduating from university I will still have the choice between different occupational fields and specializations or I will even be able to combine them.
Doing research as an MD student gives me the opportunity not only to accept established therapies but to actually take part in the scientific process of developing new strategies.

I understand foundational research as the most important tool, to steadily evolve the impact of medicine.

Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?

I decided to be part of a structured doctoral program because it provides a good framework for an effective training as a scientific researcher including soft skill courses and an experienced community.
The excellent impression I gained when I first visited the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology was the main reason why I applied for the Research Training Group “Genes, Environment and Inflammation”.
The positive scientific environment created by a young and dynamic research team and the great relevance of the research they do, convinced me that I will be part of a fruitful collaboration.
