Why this profession?

Being a mathematician by training, I obtained my first degree in applied mathematics at National Sun Yet San University, Taiwan (2002-2006). I chose statistics as my major. After completing my military service, I pursed my Master's in biostatistics at the Institute of Statistics, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan (2008-2010). My main field of research is ecological statistics, focusing especially on the calculation of the biodiversity index under the supervision of Prof. Anne Chao. During my Master's studies, apart from classic statistical courses such as time series analysis, survival analysis, statistical Inference, applied probability model, etc, I also gained some practical computational experience with C++, R and SAS. As a research assistant at the National Health Research Institute,Taiwan (2012), I worked on GWAS data, methylation data and telomere length data. I had the possibility to cooperate with some biologists and this motivated me to transfer from theoretical to applied statistics.

Why RTG Genes, Environment and Inflammation?

The Research Training Group Genes, Environment and Inflammation provides a platform for interdisciplinary study. Members' backgrounds are diverse, so I have more opportunities to obtain wide biological knowledge. I expect to contribute my expertise to this group.
