Together with his colleagues Joana P. Bernardes and Archana Bhardwaj from the Systems Immunology Group of the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB) Florian Tran, a former doctoral researcher in Medicine at the RTG 1743, is currently developing novel analysis methods for IBD tissues. The scientists got the funding (50,000 €) for this project from a mini proposal grant they received from the Cluster of Excellence Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation.

On 2 November, 2021 Florian Tran explained their approach in a television report on the TV channel NDR, comparing the novel analysis with football stadiums.
